LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
"The 'learning system' is composed of all factors that affect and are affected by the learning that takes place: learners, instructional materials, the teacher/trainer, instructional equipment, the instructional facilities, and the community or organization" (Smith & Ragan, 2005, p. 49).

The learning environment for Smart Transition will incorporate a hybrid of independent study with one-to-one instruction between the learner and instructor. An independent study model will be utilized to increase flexibility for the learner and instructor. Since learners move housing units frequently, the independent study model fits the needs of the learners since curriculum can still be completed even after movement. One-to-one instruction will be conducted in the form of interviews between the learner and instructor. The reasoning behind this instructional strategy is to provide the learner with privacy since the course will be accessing a lot of the learners personal information that they may not want to share with their peers. The one-to-one instruction model also allows the instructor to individualize the curriculum to fit the learners needs.
Physical Learning Environment
-
Individual: Learners control the pace of the course.

-
Adaptive: Instructor is able to individualize the curriculum and address the learners needs and wants since learners will be working independently.

-
Low-stakes: This is a pass/no pass class. Grades will be given on completion since learners answers are going to vary depending on their individual situation.
Independent Study
